Orchard Happenings and Updates
🌱April & May🐝
Hi all!Β

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Easter eventβ€”it was a huge success! We welcomed nearly 200 people, the kids had a blast, and we enjoyed celebrating together in the beautiful orchard. Check out what’s coming up below for more fun events!

To stay up to date on upcoming events, be sure to check out the events calendar on our website:Β https://jovialconcepts.org/calendar/.Β

It has been a busy month with Easter activities, tree planting, water checks, nesting bluebirds, and a bee swarm! Join us tomorrow at 10am at Weaver Creek ParkΒ for a short workshop onΒ garden planning, sowing seeds and planting cold season plant starts, and fruit tree planting! Later in the day we will be planting trees and working on orchard projects!

Special thanks for Foothills Parks and Rec for coming out to help us turn on the water this week! We’ve been examining the system looking for leaks and I am happy to report thatΒ our mainline is stable (no leaks! whoohoo!). We will be following all drought watering restrictions. Stay informed about drought in our area by following the links below!

Shout Out to everyone who helped plant Fruit Trees Last weekend!

A wonderful crew of volunteers spent the afternoon last week planting Peach, Cherry, Plum, and Nectarine trees! It was a blast. This weekend, we will be planting a few more trees and starting to tackle addition projects in the orchard.

If you’re interested in coming out for aΒ Garden Workshops orΒ Volunteering, you can sign up throughΒ the volunteer portal HERE.

Swarming Bees

Last week, we found bees swarming in Rabbit Brush at the orchard. It was quite a sight and sound. We called the Bee Swarm hotlineΒ and a local beekeeper was able to come out andΒ swiftly take them away. If you find a swarm your can always call: 1.844.SPY.BEES (1.844.779.2337).

Birds in the park!

I am excited to share that we have Mountain Bluebirds taking up residence in the park! Please give them some distance and they are raising young; they don’t like to be disturbed and we want them to stay. In addition to contributing to Weaver Creek Park’s biodiversity, they eat tons of bugs like grasshoppers!

Β

Some Tree Swallows are checking out another bid box, and there is a pair of Say’s Phoebes hanging out in the orchard (they nest on people’s houses), and a pair of American Crows building several decoy nests in trees on the south end of the park! We also haveΒ at least one of the SwainsonΒ Hawks stopping by on occasion.
